BLACK AND WHITE PRINTING
-Basic guide

Step 1
Choose Negative.
well exposed/developed
when possible.
CAREFULLY
clean as needed.

Step 2 Set contrast to grade 2.
Using multigrade filters.
UNDER SAFELIGHTING
Load film into carrier.
Open lens aperture to maximum.
Adjust height/focus/easel.
Glossy side up(emulsion-down).
 
Step 3
Insert test strip of printing paper into easel
(1 - 2 inches wide by 6 - 8 inches long).
Set timer to 5 seconds.
Close aperture down 2 stops.
Glossy side up(emulsion) .

Step 4
paper.gif - 756 Bytes
Make 5 second exposures.
Cover the paper with a piece
of card to make 1 inch strips.
Make 5 - 6 strips.
develop test strip.
This gives strips of 5,10,15,20,25..
second exposures.

Step 5
DEVELOPER
resin coated 1-1.5 min.
with agitation(rock tray)
STOP BATH
15 seconds with agitation
FIXER
15 seconds with agitation.
(applies only to test strips)

Step 6 Make sure printing paper is put away.
Wash test strip, remove excess water.
Inspect under light
Step 7
Look for best exposure-maximum range of tones.
Step 8
Set timer to new time. Check focus.
Insert full sheet of paper.
make exposure.

Step 9
DEVELOPER
resin coated 1-1.5 min.
with agitation(rock tray)
STOP BATH
15 seconds with agitation
FIXER
2-4 minutes with agitation.

Step 10
Check print for contrast.
Check print for exposure.
Adjust as required.
Use filters built in or in
filter-draw to adjust contrast.
Alter time for exposure.
